The Purpose of the Purple Flag

Elevating Night-Time Excellence

Southend Nights Southend Nights

What Is the Purple Flag?

The Purple Flag is a prestigious accreditation awarded to towns and cities that demonstrate excellence in managing their night-time economy. Much like the Blue Flag for beaches, the Purple Flag signals that a location offers a safe, vibrant, and well-managed environment after dark. It’s overseen by the Association of Town and City Management (ATCM) in the UK and has become a benchmark for quality evening and night-time experiences. Southend-on-Sea are very proud to have been successful in consistently gaining this award and striving to keep up our standards since 2012.
